Parents, this week I will be sending home some summer suggestions for rising 5th graders. Please look for these suggestions in your email.
Don't forget to come shop the Fourth Grade Market on May 24th at 8:30 or May 25th at 1:00!
*Siblings who attend Lovett are not to be taken out of class to attend the market.
4th Grade Fun Day will be held on Friday, May 20th. This is will be a NUD for students; school will be dismissed at noon.
Writing:
Ms. Knight taught all lessons leading up to the draft of how their superhero is going to solve a global issue. Students will spend the beginning part of this week drafting their piece. Peer editing and conferencing will take place at the end of the week. The published piece is due May 25th.
Word Study:
The word study test is now Thursday since I did not remind students to take home their notebooks on Friday. I appreciate the few that planned ahead and took it home.
Reading:
Students are finishing up any books and book clubs by next Wednesday. I am reading with students and completing final reading assessments for the year. We finally finished Wonder last week! We enjoyed reading this book together and had so many excellent discussions. I am proud of the students and how they were able to look at different perspectives and consider the feelings of others while reading Wonder. Some students purchased Auggie & Me at the book fair and have already begun reading it. I will be adding it to my personal summer reading list.
Social Studies:
After talking with the class today and looking at our last two weeks, the Southern Colonies test is set for Tuesday, May 25th. Monday May 24th will be a short study hall to review for the test. This week, I will show students how to set up a quizlet to prepare for the test.
