Friday was short, but the students worked so hard. We were able to accomplish and learn a lot. I am proud of their diligence, despite the looming idea of early dismissal and potential snow. If you want to share snow pictures, I will post on the website.
I hope that everyone saw the progress (or lack thereof) in Type to Learn by your child. It was shocking to see that some people have not worked on it since November! This form came home in Friday folders last week.
Math:
We are working through Unit 7. Last week, students reviewed naming fractions and vocabulary and used probability language. This week we will look at equivalent fractions and adding/subtracting fractions.
Don't forget that your child should be working on the Math Celebration at home! Students should have begun the presentation part of the project and/or the write-up for their project. This project is due next week.
Writing:
Today, students are celebrating the completion of the Colonial feature article that they wrote in a "Cafe" in our classroom. I will post pictures this week.
Currently, we are focusing on grammar concepts. Review of previously taught concepts and introduction of new concepts will continue for the next two weeks. Students will have a couple quick writes to practice using these concepts. After learning, reviewing, and practicing, the students will be quizzed on concepts taught. I will send home a quick study guide at the end of this week or beginning of next week.
Social Studies:
Last week, we read and discussed several chapters from the Making Thirteen Colonies book. This week, we will read and learn about Puritans, Schools, Roger Williams, and Women during this time period.
Reading:
Our reading and study of Blood on the River is continuing. Students have read through chapters 9. All students have completed the reading at home and been prepared for discussions. I look forward to seeing this work continue as we continue to read and move towards finishing the book next week. During this historical fiction study, students will be identifying how the setting and perspectives effect the plot line.
Word Study:
Today, we did a quick check of the spelling and meaning of some of the words. Students should continue to review this week for the test on Thursday.
