Spring break begins Friday. Ms. Knight and I hope that your child enjoys some time off and you are able to spend some extra time with them.
No late start this week.
This March, the Lower School will host its inaugural Lower School Parent Book Club. Join Lower School administrators and teachers to discuss Carol Dweck’s groundbreaking book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. Inspired by decades of research, Mindset explores the difference between those who believe their intelligence is fixed and those who believe their intelligence can be developed. Dweck’s research suggests that children with growth mindsets develop into more motivated, tenacious, and, ultimately, more successful adults. You can order Mindset through the Lovett campus store (email [email protected]). We will host two, identical sessions; please join us on March 15 at 6:00 p.m. or March 17 at 9:00 a.m. Kindly RSVP to the link below by March 7. Both discussions will be held in the Lower School.

Reading:
Social Issues book clubs are in full swing. Your child is reading one of the following books: Bridge to Terabithia, Loser, Firegirl, or Fourth Grade Rats. The current read aloud is Wonder. Students had many days to prepare and read before today's next meeting. We have discussed social issues for fourth graders, and on a global perspective. Last week, provided a great discussion about social issues!
Social issues: problems that directly or indirectly affect many or all members of a society. They are considered to be problems related to moral values.
Social Studies:
Today, students began a new mission with Mapping the Thirteen Colonies. This is an in-class performance assessment. Students will be using an atlas to correctly label various information about the colonies. We will begin making flashcards and taking notes while reading the chapters after spring break.
Writing:
Students will be reading an article to learn how to make a claim and support it with evidence. We will have several lessons on how to use evidence to support your claim. Studying an essay that presents evidence and information will take place tomorrow.
Word Study:
Students will take Sort 11 assessment on Thursday before the break. We are talking thoroughly through the noticings and rules.
