- Thurs: Holiday NUD, Sing-a-long at 12:30 for students, Holiday Party at 1:45
*School will resume for students on Tues., Jan 5th
Curriculum news:
Word Study: Sort 7 test is tomorrow. A new sort will begin the week we return.
Math: Partial Quotients will be introduced tomorrow. This strategy is in the family letter that came home and also on the Everyday Math website. If your child is having a difficult time with this strategy after I teach it tomorrow, or you want some extra help with using this strategy with your child, please feel free to send me a note or email. In this unit, students will also be using a protractor to measure and draw angles and study coordinate grids.
Writing: Students are boxing their research notes.I noticed that some students don't even have a full page of notes. This lets me know that they did not use the research time in class as wisely as they could. Also, notes were not taken at home as suggested. In class research time has concluded and students are beginning to draft tomorrow. I explained to some students that they are behind with not having a lot of research and will have extra homework this week. Students are not able to draft without a solid 1 1/2-2 pages of notes. As I mentioned to the students, their published informational piece should be almost 2 pages long. I would appreciate you taking a minute to check in with your child to see what research they have.
Social Studies: Students spent more time today in a center of their choice. They also got in groups to discuss the answers on the study guide. The test will be on Wednesday.
