The first late start date is this Wednesday. A reminder that school begins at 8:45am. We have Science at 9 so it will be helpful for all students to be in the classroom by 8:45 so they have time to unpack and prepare for the day to start.
Please remember to sign your child's agenda nightly. If you notice blanks throughout the week, you may need to ask your child if they are copying all of their homework. I have the same agenda as the students so they copy directly from mine to theirs and I require them to copy each word.
I spent an hour going over the Rules of the Road for laptops. Most of you were at the parent orientation meeting, but it is important to talk about this with your child at home .Once signed, we will begin working with laptops in class.
*** Important: Already, I have several students not completing their homework. I am very concerned about this and have talked in depth with the students. Please check in with your child about their homework. Ask to see it if you feel that is needed as well. ***
Math
The study guide for unit 1 was handed out on Friday. The students will work on this throughout the week and any final questions or confusions will be answered on Wednesday during our review. This study guide should stay in the black box, not at home.
Unit 1 test will be Thursday, September 3rd. The open response will be on Friday.
Social Studies
A study guide was handed out on Friday as well. However, as I told the students, there is not a test date yet. Since social studies topics contain detailed information, and often dates, I give it near the beginning of a unit and they work on it throughout the unit.
We ended last week talking about dinosaurs and watching some videos that captured the interest of the class. This week, we will learn about the Ice Age and Stone Age.
Reading workshop
Students are continuing to familiarize themselves with the routines during reading workshop and the expectations of the work and jotting that will be completed throughout the year.
Writing workshop
The students turned in their first writing homework assignment today. A prompt was assigned today that will be due on Tuesday after Labor Day. I am working with a small group on using paragraphs in their writing. This is a skill that should have been mastered in third grade. If you notice that your child is not using paragraphs in their weekly writing homework, please talk with them about this.
Word Study
Sort 1 was introduced last week.
