I was looking at last week's newsletter and it appears that it did not all post. Unfortunately, because I started the one for this week, I can no longer access what I typed, but was not posted. I apologize for the incomplete newsletter. I look forward to changing websites next year in hopes that I won't have so many publishing difficulties. Also, I informed the students today that the internet was down all morning so my newsletter is delayed. They know that they have until Wed. to read it.
Ms. Spiers is collecting old CDs and DVDs for a project for our Earth Day celebration on April 22. If you have any that you no longer need, please send them her way. Thank you!
Calling all Dads! You are invited to a Father's Day celebration on April 11th at 9:45. We have some great things planned and look forward to having you here with your child. If Dad cannot attend, we happily invite a grandfather, uncle, neighbor, or close friend to join us!
Math:
Unit 10 test is this week. Students have learned all concepts in the unit and are finishing the work in their journal. The test will be Thursday. I stated that in my newsletter last week, but now realize that it was one of the changes that didn't post.
Writing:
Students are working on two different assignments this week. One, is a WPP weekly homework assignment. This is due on Friday. The other is the chocolate milk draft. After prewriting and discussions about how to best word reasons to support their claim, students will be drafting tomorrow. The published piece will be due Thursday, April 14th. By next Tuesday, students will have written their final draft, been taught lessons about introductions, conclusions, details, and transitions. The rest of the week will be for editing in class.
Social Studies:
The Middle Colonies test is Friday. This is also a date and subject missing from last week's newsletter. Today, we went over the definitions for all of the vocabulary on the flashcards that I had the students create. Unfortunately, some students did not complete the flashcards so they have not been reviewing these terms. Students will have a final review and discussions on Thursday. A very detailed study guide was handed out last week.
Reading:
Today, I checked in with students about the book that they are reading in class. All students are to have a realistic fiction book. I still have some students confused about this genre so we went over it again. The optional book clubs have started this week and students are meeting to "chat and chew" over lunch. Students are continuing to think through, and about, other perspectives when reading Wonder and the mentor texts.
